Penn Woods

Penn Street is lucky enough to back onto the extensive ancient woodlands of Penn Woods. The woods are now owned by The Woodland Trust, who protect the area and ensure it remains available to the public.

Their are several paths that lead into the woods from the village, with the key access points at the edge of the common and next to the Church.

During the spring impressive bluebells can be seen, with red kites and buzzards often seen in the skies above. There is also a herd of cows that are still used to manage the ‘wood pasture’ part of the woods – a traditional management technique!

More information on the history of Penn Woods can be found in this leaflet from the Woodland Trust, in addition to other information available on their website.
